AJ is an ambitious and hard-working reporter with a passion for storytelling.
He is currently a General Assignment Reporter/Fill-In Anchor with Action News Now (KHSL 12/ KNVN 24/ CW 10-TV) in Chico, CA. He researches, shoots, writes, and edits news stories (PKG, VSV, etc.) for live newscasts as well as does live shots in the field.
In the past year, AJ covered major events like the Oroville Dam Spillway break, the search for Sherri Papini, and the case of an officer-involved shooting, among others.
He is a graduate of the NPPA News Video Workshop in Norman, OK. As promised, that week of intense learning and powerful critiques changed how he approaches, gathers, edits, writes, and presents his work.
AJ majored in Broadcast and Digital Journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and minored in Marketing at the Whitman School of Management, along with being part of Syracuse’s Division 1 Rowing team. He interned for Fox29 news in Philadelphia in the summer of 2014, and in February of 2016 covered Sen. Ted Cruz at the New Hampshire primaries as well as the presidential race in NYC for the New York primary.
AJ moved here from Moscow, Russia when he was 10 years old and attended St. Joe’s Prep high-school, a Jesuit school in Philadelphia. He was a part of the varsity rowing team, and as a junior competed at the Henley Royal Regatta in England. He was Vice-President of the school his senior year, and upon graduation received the Richard B. McCloskey Award, “the highest award given to a senior…” With his mind set on being a journalist, he was accepted to the Newhouse School at Syracuse University and was recruited to be a part of its D1 Rowing Team.
While at Syracuse, AJ also ran for student-body president as the first ever write-in candidate, but unfortunately came up short.
AJ is proficient in a wide variety of business tools, video editing software, and social media platforms, including ENPS, Edius, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Audacity, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube.
